APMEP
Association des Professeurs de Mathématiques de l'Enseignement Public
Created in 1910, constituted with volunteers, APMEP:
- is totally independent, financially, politically and regarding trade-unions;
- represents mathematics teachers from nursery school up to university.
APMEP is a space for...
- free speech and confrontation of ideas;
- cooperative self-training actions;
- political propositions regarding mathematics teaching.
APMEP cares about...
- curricula and their evaluation (EVAPM);
- students' required competences;
- teaching and teacher training;
- timetable, total number of students, etc.
- harmonisation between different cycles of the educational system;
- mathematics as a means of self development rather than selection;
- integration of new technologies;
- information and training of mathematics teachers;
- making evolutions easier by enhancing team work (mathematical laboratory, club, etc.).
For APMEP, doing mathematics means
Formulating a problem, modelling, experimenting, taking examples, making conjectures, gathering information, building a proof, using adequate tools, evaluating the consistency and pertinence of the results, communicating;
Simultaneously developing:
- a taste for mathematics, the pleasure of it;
- individual but also collaborative work of the students;
- a sense for listening and discussing;
- perseverance;
- imagination, critical sense, coherence and rigor.
APMEP publishes, nourishes and disseminates
- 3 bulletins: Bulletin Vert, PLOT and BGV;
- over 150 brochures;
